Les urgences telles que les conflits violents et les catastrophes naturelles sont ressenties de façon profondément différente par les filles, les femmes, les garçons et les hommes. Ils sont confrontés à des risques différents, réagissent de façon différente à des situations de stress et ont des capacités différentes pour affronter les évènements de la crise.

Une éducation de qualité pour tous est un droit humain fondamental, un mécanisme de protection et un catalyseur pour le développement personnel et social. Dans les situations de crise, il est crucial d'avoir un système éducatif tenant compte du genre pour que les apprenants et les apprenantes de tous les âges aient accès à des possibilités éducatives de qualité, pertinentes et protectrices.

Giving access to education to displaced learners with disabilities

Despite the challenges and barriers experienced by displaced learners with disabilities and the evident need for further human and financial resources, inclusive education in crisis contexts is possible.

One of the barriers to making progress on protecting and including people with disabilities in emergency response is the fear that inclusion is ‘too difficult’ in a crisis – and thus no action is taken [...] Committing to inclusion is [...] about allowing the principles of inclusion to inform all work, asking who is currently excluded from learning and participation and what all of us can do to improve the situation.

The future is now: education for children in countries affected by conflicts. A report by Save the Children UK

Children and school buildings are increasingly becoming targets in conflicts across the world, warns Save the Children as one of the key findings of a report published on May, 11th. The organisation finds that the risks of violence to schoolchildren in conflict-blighted areas are on the rise as schools are increasingly used as symbolic, easy targets by armed groups. These risks to children will continue to grow unless the international community takes urgent action to protect them from attack.

EI launches Declaration on Schools as Safe Sanctuaries

Acid attacks on Afghan girls, drive-by shootings of Colombian teachers, assassination of Iraqi academics and students, arson of schools in Thailand: These are only a few examples of the increasing violent political and military attacks on education. Urging the world to protect and defend education, EI has issued a formal Declaration that Schools Shall Be Safe Sanctuaries.
